Typically, it is not easy for such people to request a day off. He was also uncertain how to solve his problem.<\/p>\n<p>He was 56 years old in 2022 when he asked our help to get an ID. With some trouble, we found his birth entry in the old hand-written birth register of Richmond (Northern Cape) which is kept in the <strong>Cape Archives<\/strong>. With a certified copy of this birth entry, he could apply for a printed birth certificate and then for an ID. There were some serious practical and administrative delays with his ID application, during which time he lost his leg and was no longer able to work. In December 2024, aged 58, he eventually received his ID and could claim <strong>UIF and a disability grant<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Koos lost his birth certificate during his school years and worked as a farm labourer for most of his life.
